Who is
Darryl Worbey?

Darryl’s professional career started in 1985 as an animatronics puppeteer on the sci-fi movie Hyper Sapiens – a year later he was invited to join the Jim Henson Company working on many projects, including, for television - The Storyteller, Dinosaurs and What’s up Doc?

As contributing designer / supervisor he worked on feature films: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 & 2, The Flintstones and Neverending Story 2, the now classic Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Treasure Island and more recently - Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted.

In 1990 Darryl formed Darryl Worbey Studio, creating and designing high quality bespoke puppets and characters for the entertainment industry, quickly building a core team of highly skilled artists and performers. Their considerable body of work has featured in films, television and on stage globally.

Television and commercial projects include:

BBC TV’s Live and Kicking, The Basil Brush Show, Barnaby Bear, Step Inside, Dear Mr Barker, Love Soup.

For ITV The Ministry of Mayhem, The Ark and The Time Keepers of The Millennium.

Commercials and print campaigns include - Wooly and Worth (for BBH), Wheetos, Red Bee Media, Cornetto, TomTom, Samsung & Grey International.

In 2015, his client of 25 years – international ventriloquist Paul Zerdin – won season 10 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, opening his own Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood.

In 2016, Darryl was invited to join Neal Scanlan's Creature Effects Department on the new Star Wars anthology for Disney – Rogue I and The Last Jedi. His work included the fabrication of a variety of creatures, but his main role was as senior puppet builder to Yoda (once again played and voiced by Frank Oz).

Most recent credits in 2021 include Sex Unzipped for Netflix, and “The Abominable Snow Baby” for Channel 4.
